28th ICDERS Awards

Young Investigator Award Nomination Call

The Institute for the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems invites nominations for THE JOHN H. S. LEE YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD sponsored by FM GLOBAL. The purpose of the award is to encourage young scientists to undertake research in the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems.
Up to two Awards are to be presented at the 28th International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems. Recipients must be either students or combustion scientists who have received their PhD (or equivalent) within the last three years before the Colloquium, and an author of a paper accepted for the Colloquium.
The Award will include a cash prize of US $500, reimbursement of documented lodging and meal expenses up to US $750 or equivalent in local currency, plus waiver of the registration fee at the Colloquium, including banquet and social events.
Nomination for the Award can be made by anyone familiar with the accomplishments of the nominee. The nominee must attend the 28th Colloquium and present her/his paper personally.
The nomination package will consist of:

  1. A cover letter by the nominator that acts as a letter of recommendation.
  2. A nominee information package including:
    1. Name, email and current mailing address,
    2. Affiliation and position,
    3. Current educational vitae,
    4. A list of journal and peer-reviewed conference publications,
    5. A list of recent accomplishments (restricted to 1 page).

Manson, Oppenheim, and Soloukhin Award Nominations

The Institute for the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems invites nominations for NUMA MANSON medal, A.K. OPPENHEIM prize, and R.I. SOLOUKHIN award

NUMA MANSON medal for distinguished contributions to the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems. This medal is given to a mature scientist who is distinguished by lifelong accomplishments that have elucidated prominent features of the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems.

A.K. OPPENHEIM prize for brilliant contributions to the theoretical or interpretative aspects of the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems. This is intended for an active scientist who is distinguished by showing how to analyze or what it means.

R. I. SOLOUKHIN award for outstanding contributions to the experimental or diagnostics aspects of the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems. This is intended for an active scientist who is distinguished by showing how to measure or what is its value.

Nomination for an Award can be made by anyone familiar with the accomplishments of the nominee. Previous recipients of one of these senior IDERS awards cannot be selected for another of the three awards. For information on past recipients, please see

A complete nomination package will consist of:

  1. A letter of nomination to one of the ICDERS awards with clear arguments supporting the specific Award criteria;
  2. Letters to support the nomination;
  3. An information package including Curriculum Vitae and other relevant information, such as past participation in ICDERS.
